CHILDREN & ADOLESCENT THERAPY
Children & Adolescents
Why is it important to address sooner than later?
The goal of therapy is to build a toolbox of coping skills to help you overcome whatever particular issue you are facing. The sooner you start to fill that toolbox, the more effective and useful it will be in your life. It is easier to create habits or learn new languages when you are younger because the brain is still developing. Thus, you’re wiring the brain to do things in a certain way, if it’s a blank slate it’s more receptive to taking in new information and grasping it. As opposed to rewiring a brain that has already developed its method for coping or dealing with problems.
If you begin to build and utilize your toolbox from a young age, as an adult utilizing these skills will become second nature when facing a future challenge.
Often times, if an issue is occurring and is addressed early enough, you may prevent comorbidity, that is to say, a secondary issue occurring. For example, if a child is able to get manage his/her ADHD early on in development, he/she may be spared from developing anxiety or other difficulties that may arise from not treating the ADHD.
